No Beans in Chili

Menu says "Texas. No retreat"
Big red bowl. Smells like meat
Spoon goes down — I hit a wall
Beans in the bottom. Ruins it all

Chair goes back. I lose my head
Bowl hits drywall. Splashes red
Manager yelling, I don't care
Chili raining everywhere

Take it back
Take it back

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

Meat and spice
That's the dealy
If I see beans
I flip the mealy

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

Fairground stand, cash in hand
Best damn chili dog in the land
First big bite and something spills
Beans sliding out in little brown hills

I shove that dog in the register drawer
Cheese on the bills and beans on the floor
Lean on the counter, dead-eye stare
"Who puts beans in chili? I swear"

Take it back
Take it back

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

Meat and spice
That's the dealy
If I see beans
I flip the mealy

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

Pot on stove. She says "Surprise"
Thick red bowl right in my eyes
Spoon goes in, I see the proof
Beans floating like some kind of goof

I slam the spoon. I kick the chair
"Why are beans still living there?"
She says "Protein." I say "No"
Chili's meat. That's how it goes

Take it back
Take it back

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

Meat and spice
That's the dealy
If I see beans
I flip the mealy

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

Dark red surface, thick and dense
Black pepper sharp and intense
Ground beef packed in every bite
Oil on top catching light

No soft fillers stretching the scene
No beans hiding in between
That's the bowl I wanna see
And it doesn't have beans

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

Meat and spice
That's the dealy
If I see beans
I flip the mealy

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili

No beans
No beans
No beans
In chili
